AI for Reproductive Health in Africa Innovation Challenge

An initiative funded by International Development Research Centre and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and organised by Infectious Diseases Institute and African Population and Health Research Center, this Innovation Challenge aims to support the development of AI-driven solutions addressing key sexual and reproductive health (SRH) challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa.
What to expect
- A 4-week virtual innovation sprint focused on co-designing, prototyping, and testing scalable AI solutions
- Capacity building through expert-led sessions and mentorship
- Opportunities to apply AI, data science, and digital tools to real-world health challenges
Thematic Tracks
- Early Pregnancy Loss Care – Improve service delivery, referral systems, and access to quality, patient-centered care
- Contraceptive Decision-Making – Build intelligent tools that support informed, personalized contraceptive choices
Who can apply
- Teams of 3–6 members from Sub-Saharan Africa
- Must include at least 2 women
- Multidisciplinary teams (e.g. health + data/tech expertise)
- Lusophone and Francophone applicants are strongly encouraged
