The Multilingual Health Question Answering Challenge

Deadline Jun 26, 2026
The Multilingual Health Question Answering Challenge

The Hub for Artificial Intelligence in Maternal, Sexual and Reproductive Health (HASH) is inviting researchers, developers, students, and innovators to participate in the Multilingual Health Question Answering Challenge.

Access to reliable health information remains a major challenge across the region, particularly where language barriers limit access to accurate and culturally relevant guidance. AI systems trained primarily on English-language datasets often struggle to understand and respond effectively in African languages such as Luganda, Kiswahili, Akan, and Amharic, leaving millions underserved.

This challenge calls on participants to build multilingual AI models capable of answering health-related questions accurately and fluently in low-resource African languages using curated health question-and-answer datasets. Strong solutions could support health worker assistants, patient education tools, and clinic support systems in underserved communities.
