Prof. Damien Hanyurwimfura

Prof. Damien Hanyurwimfura is the Principal Investigator of the Transformative Artificial Intelligence Research and Innovation Lab (TAIRI) at the University of Rwanda. His work focuses on advancing Rwanda’s transition to a knowledge-based economy through the responsible development and application of artificial intelligence.

TAIRI builds local capacity in AI research and talent, while developing practical, context-relevant solutions across sectors such as health, agriculture, and the environment. The lab also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, contributes to AI policy and governance, and supports the adoption of ethical, inclusive AI practices in Rwanda and beyond.
