Tegawendé F. Bissyandé is the Principal Investigator of the Center of Interdisciplinary Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Development (CITADEL).

CITADEL’s work focuses on advancing responsible AI in sub-Saharan Africa, driving innovation in critical sectors such as health, languages, and agriculture. The project emphasizes democratizing AI education to build local capacity, develop skilled professionals, and cultivate an AI-empowered workforce. It also engages with policymakers to foster an enabling environment for AI development that aligns with ethical standards and local needs, while contributing to global AI governance discussions.
