Evaluating AI for Development Use Cases

Policy

The Evaluating AI for Development Use Cases project, coordinated by the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), will generate and share actionable research on how AI affects development outcomes, with a focus on Africa and Asia.

It will fund and support a portfolio of experimental evaluations to understand which AI tools work, which do not, and for whom they work. The initiative will also strengthen local African and Asian research leadership and capacity and ensure that findings are translated into clear guidance for policymakers and practitioners.

Finally, it will convene key stakeholders in the AI for development ecosystem to share insights from AIGSI, facilitate connections that can accelerate evidence use and generation, and set the future research and funding agenda.
