Overview

Cameroon faces persistent and growing threats from emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, compounded by fragmented health data systems and limited early warning capacity. For frontline health workers and vulnerable communities navigating outbreaks, these gaps translate directly into delayed responses and preventable harm.

The DigiCare App deploys AI and big data tools through a One Health lens, integrating health system, environmental, and home-based care data into a unified platform for early warning, disease surveillance, and outbreak prediction. Mobile and web-based interfaces make the tools accessible across care settings, while the project simultaneously builds national capacity for responsible AI deployment, policy, and regulation in public health.

The results are strengthening how Cameroon detects and responds to health threats. Smarter surveillance is shortening the distance between early signals and rapid response, integrated data streams are improving outbreak prediction, and the project's policy and training components are laying the groundwork for sustained, responsible AI use in the health system. With a model that is locally embedded, multi-sectoral, and scalable, DigiCare offers a blueprint for AI-powered infectious disease response across the African continent.
