Overview

Waterborne disease outbreaks remain a persistent public health threat in Tunisia, compounded by water stress, emerging antimicrobial resistance, and the limitations of conventional surveillance systems. When pathogens spread faster than detection can catch them, communities and the health systems meant to protect them are left responding too late.

INTERACT addresses this gap by combining responsible AI with wastewater-based epidemiology to build smarter, earlier warning systems for waterborne outbreaks. AI models are integrated with real-time wastewater surveillance data to monitor high-priority pathogens and track antimicrobial resistance risks. The initiative works in close partnership with Tunisia's Ministry of Health, ensuring that the system is embedded within existing institutional structures and capable of informing timely, evidence-based responses.
