Leveraging Artificial Intelligence Techniques To Inform Choice Of Modern Contraceptives Among Adolescent Girls And Young Women

Overview

This AI-powered tool addresses the growing challenge of unintended pregnancies in Sub-Saharan Africa due to unmet contraceptive needs. Designed for adolescent girls and young women (15–24), it predicts potential contraceptive side effects and failure risks, analyzing personal preferences, medical history, and demographics through an integrated AI system.

By providing evidence-based guidance, recommending suitable contraceptive options, and offering information on nearby healthcare facilities, the tool helps users make confident, informed decisions about their reproductive health. Around 200 users have been trained on the application, which has contributed to reducing misinformation, promoting positive attitudes toward contraceptive use, and strengthening self-efficacy. Ultimately, the project aims to decrease the number of unsafe abortions and unintended pregnancies in the region.
