Overview


Mosquito-borne diseases, including malaria and emerging viral zoonotic pathogens, pose a persistent threat to public health across sub-Saharan Africa. Climate change is accelerating mosquito proliferation and expanding transmission risk, placing communities, health systems, and frontline workers under growing pressure.

Developed entirely at KNUST in Ghana, the Mosquito Tracker deploys an AI-powered identification system that detects mosquito species, sex, and age in real time, offering an early-warning capability against disease outbreaks. Low-cost, non-invasive, and built for local conditions, the system was designed from the ground up. Communities have been active participants in shaping the innovation, ensuring the technology is grounded in the realities of the contexts it serves.
